Can Pelvic Floor Therapy Help with Endometriosis Symptoms?

Living with endometriosis often means living with pain ... the kind that feels like it takes over your body, your energy, and sometimes even your identity. But what many don’t realize is that pelvic floor physical therapy can play a key role in managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

First: How Is the Pelvic Floor Involved?

Endometriosis doesn’t just affect reproductive organs. Over time, the pain, inflammation, and scar tissue can change how your entire pelvis functions — including the muscles of your pelvic floor.

When your body is in pain, it protects itself by tensing up. That constant tension can cause pelvic floor muscles to become overactive, tight, or restricted, leading to:

  • Pain with sex or tampon use

  • Difficulty with bowel movements

  • Pelvic pressure or burning

  • Discomfort with sitting or movement

What Does Pelvic Floor Therapy Actually Do?

We work with people who have endo to:

  • Reduce pelvic tension: Gentle manual therapy can release tight muscles and improve blood flow.

  • Improve mobility: If your tissues have been affected by scar tissue or repeated inflammation, we help restore movement.

  • Support bowel and bladder health: We address things like urgency, constipation, and incomplete emptying.

  • Rebuild trust in your body: We help you reconnect with your pelvic area in a way that feels safe and empowering.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Every body responds differently, and we tailor your care plan based on what you’re experiencing and what your goals are.

What to Expect in a Session

If you’re nervous — you’re not alone. Pelvic PT isn’t like your typical physical therapy session. It starts with a conversation about your symptoms, history, and what matters most to you.

We may use a combination of external techniques (like abdominal massage and movement work) and, if appropriate and with your consent, internal techniques to help release tension or improve coordination.

It’s all done at your pace, with your comfort in mind.

You Deserve a Full-Support Team

Endometriosis is complex. And managing it often requires more than one provider.

Pelvic floor therapy isn’t a cure — but it can be a powerful tool alongside the rest of your care. If you’re working with a gynecologist, surgeon, or other specialists, we’re happy to collaborate so your care feels cohesive and clear.
