Is Pelvic Floor Therapy Worth It?

What to Expect and How It Can Help

At Webb PT, we hear this question all the time from people who are struggling with things like bladder leaks, pelvic pain, or discomfort after childbirth, but aren’t sure if pelvic floor therapy is the right next step.

So let’s break it down.

What Is Pelvic Floor Therapy, Really?

Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized form of physical or occupational therapy that focuses on the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that support your pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, rectum). These muscles affect everything from peeing and pooping to sex, posture, and core strength.

When your pelvic floor is too weak, too tight, or just not functioning the way it should, it can lead to:

  • Urinary incontinence (leaking when you sneeze, laugh, or run)

  • Pelvic pain or pressure

  • Pain during or after sex

  • Constipation or bowel dysfunction

  • A feeling of “heaviness” or prolapse

Is It Worth It?

Short answer: Yes—and not just because we’re biased.

Long answer: Pelvic floor therapy can be truly life-changing. Most people wait months (or years!) before seeking help, assuming symptoms are “normal” or just something to live with—especially after childbirth. But guess what? Leaking isn’t normal. Pain isn’t normal. And feeling disconnected from your own body doesn’t have to be your new normal.

The good news is that with the right care, these symptoms are treatable. Many of our patients report major improvements within just a few sessions.

“I thought I’d be in pads forever,” one of our patients told us. “But after two visits, I didn’t need them at all.”

What to Expect at Your First Visit

We get it—talking about your pelvic floor can feel vulnerable, especially if you don’t know what to expect. That’s why we make every session feel safe, supportive, and judgment-free.

At your first visit, we’ll:

  • Talk through your symptoms, lifestyle, goals, and concerns

  • Assess posture, breathing, and movement patterns

  • Explain exactly what’s going on and how we can help

  • Walk you through next steps, whether that’s hands-on treatment, exercises, or habit changes

And yes, internal exams may be part of the process—but only with your full consent, and only when you’re ready.

You Deserve to Feel Like You

Pelvic floor therapy isn’t just about symptom relief. It’s about confidence. It’s about reconnecting to your body. It’s about feeling like yourself again—whether that means playing with your kids, running without leaks, or enjoying intimacy without pain.

So if you’ve been wondering whether pelvic floor therapy is “worth it,” here’s your sign: Yes. It is. And we’d be honored to help.
